President Hill announces smoke-free plans

I am pleased to announce that Vassar will become a smoke-free campus, effective July 2015.

This proactive health decision puts us in the ranks of more than 1,100 colleges and universities nationwide with similar policies. The time has come. There is overwhelming evidence on the dangers and addictive nature of smoking; further, secondhand smoke affects everyone. By enacting this initiative Vassar is underscoring its commitment to a healthy environment for all members of the college community.

Our timeframe for this initiative allows for information dissemination and education efforts. You will notice signs about our current smoking policies around campus and in January we will offer a series of smoking cessation classes to students, faculty and staff.

I invite you to visit our Smoke-Free Policy website at for more information.
