Celebration of Life for Larry Mamiya on Saturday, October 5th

Dear Colleagues,

We would like to invite everyone in the Vassar community to a memorial celebration of the life of emeritus professor of Religion and Africana Studies, Larry Mamiya. Larry was an inspiring presence on the Vassar faculty for nearly four decades, from 1975 until his retirement in 2014. He passed away in January of 2019. Larry was a strong advocate for Africana Studies, a distinguished scholar of African American religions, and the guiding spirit behind Vassar’s prison program.

A memorial celebration of his life will take place Saturday, October 5th from 2:00 to 4:00pm in the Aula, Ely Hall. The program for the event is attached and all are welcome.
