A Message Regarding the Events in New Zealand

Dear all,

I am writing to express my utter sadness at the events in New Zealand yesterday in which at least 49 people were shot and killed during Friday morning prayers in two mosques. The shooter reportedly supports white supremacy and fascism, beliefs that are the antithesis of what we stand for at Vassar. The events are an affront to us all, but our hearts and thoughts are particularly with our Muslim students, faculty, administrators, and staff at this very sad and scary moment. May the tragedy bring us closer as a community, as we stand in solidarity against white supremacy and hate, and let us rededicate ourselves to fostering equity and inclusion in our community.

Nora Zaki, Advisor for Muslim Student Life, is available as needed; please reach out to her or other campus resources if you need support.

With hope for a better future,
